Take a stand, sit for change

TAKE A STAND, SIT FOR CHANGE 2nd Annual Sit-A-Thon is a dynamic, informative and inspiring daylong event, featuring hourly sessions of sitting, walking and moving meditation; yoga; green and healthy lifestyle exhibits; and live music and spoken word. SIT FOR CHANGE is an invitation for individuals, groups and organizations "to take a stand and sit for change" in their communities, cities and the world by inviting them to explore new ideas for creating social change.

Hosted by the Center of Transformative Change (CXC). CXC is the first national center entirely dedicated to bridging the inner and outer lives of social change agents, activists and allies to support a more effective, more sustainable movement of social justice for all.

Saturday, September 19, 2009 in conjunction with the International Day of Peace, Global Mala for Peace, National Yoga Month and Fall Equinox celebrations.

10 am - 4 pm. Registration opens at 10 am.

Location: MLK Civic Center Park, 2151 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Berkeley, CA 94704 between Center & Allston Way. Conveniently located two blocks west of the Downtown Berkeley BART station.

SIT FOR CHANGE's central feature is a dynamic ongoing program of five hourly sessions with sitting, walking and moving meditation, yoga and live music and spoken word. A circle of 108 Changemakers (sponsored, pledge participants) committed to sitting for all five sessions join together to form a human “circle of change” around and in support of the all participating registered sitters.

Affinity Tents: Four main Affinity Tents will anchor the event. Each tent will house experts in their prospective areas and provide demonstrations, activities and information on their products and services. Affinity Tents highlight the following themes:

   1. Being Well: Complimentary and Alternative Well-being, Health & Wellness

   2. WholeBody: Body, Mind & Spirit

   3. "SustEcoGreen": Sustainable, Green & Eco Living

   4. Naturalicious: Natural & Healthy Lifestyles and Eating

Community Partners: Local and visiting community-based and non-profit organizations doing work for change showcase their work, giving community members a chance to learn more about what they do and how to get involved directly from the folks that make change happen.

Kids Zone: Rock Climbing Wall, Air Jumper, games, story-telling, face-painting and fun educational activities are planned for kids of all ages.

Services, Arts & Crafts and Learning: Dozens of vendors offering a variety of products, arts and services.

All this alongside the Berkeley Farmer's Market providing food and entertainment.

Proceeds of SIT FOR CHANGE will benefit the Transformative Change Fund. The fund was created to develop national low and no-cost inner awareness programs, including meditation and yoga, to encourage and empower individuals doing work to change the world to lead more balanced, compassionate, sustainable lives. The Fund is housed with Center for Transformative Change, a 501c3, nonprofit educational organization. All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
